Eye for Makeup

MakeUp, Dress Up & Never Give Up.

Lets ConceaL

The woes of graveyard shifts. I dread night shifts. Really wished I could escape working shifts at times. There are pros and cons but I am at that age where Night shifts are just too tiring. When you hit your 30s, your body just does not cooperate like it used to anymore!  Does anyone else feel that way?? Damn I miss my 20s. Oh well , Life of a Nurse. Yes, I am a Nurse ✌🏼️. So all this rotating shifts especially nights, add on to my already existing eye circles making me look like a Panda. Which is why concealing my eye circles are very very important to me, at least when I wear makeup. I do not wear makeup on a daily basis, not to work. So I am in the glory of my true self, eye bags and dark under eye circles and all. Yes yes.. I keep it very real.

So, a few of of my friends and family have asked me how I conceal my eyes and because I am on Night shift, I decided to do a quick post on concealing.

I always, always suggest colour correcting first. I have tried just concealer, I have tried not concealing and just solely putting foundation to cover them up. But for me, nothings works best or looks the best unless I colour correct first. I swear by it. Firstly, always use a moisturizing eye cream and allow it to absorb before moving on to the next step. Sometimes I do skip this when I am in a rush but I find that this helps. By moisturizing, I find that the fine lines area under that eye are a little more plump and less dry.

Next I colour correct. This, I was taught by the Mac counter girl when I wanted to buy a concealer for the very first time in my life and she told me to colour correct first as my under eyes are very dark. Till this day I only used Mac’s Prep & Prime in Peach Lustre to colour correct first.

Swatch of it

So there, above is the swatch of it and it looks very orange and scary but trust me this helps. It is basically using the colour wheel. You neautralize blue with orange shadesand red with green shades. Worked well for me and some friends whom I have tried putting on makeup for.

I dot this at the extremities of the dark circles and I tap in with my fingers. I feel that I really can work the product when I tap in. This is all trial and error. I tried a few times until I learnt how much was enough for me. So of course I tell you the same. To trial n error, to learn whats enough and how much is enough for your under eye.
Then I go in with concealer and by far..again..I prefer Mac’s concealer (sorry, just have not loved any other yet). No not prolong wear. I do own that but I dont love it that much. As much as I love that it comes with a pump, it pumps too much product then necessary and does not seem to look wonderful on me after applied. Or maybe I am doing something wrong, not too sure. Got to continue experimenting.

My Current Go to Concealer

Tarte Maracuja – Heavy Duty

Ok so above is the current Mac concealer I am using currently. After I colour correct, I apply concealer of desired amount. I either tap in if I am lazy to use a brush or use a beauty blender. If I do use a brush, I don’t like using a concealer brush. Instead I prefer using a Flat Foundation brush just for concealer and boy do I love the outcome.

The Tarte maracuja concealer is very very heavy duty, a little goes a long way and you have to really take time to blend it out to get it perfect. Again not something I love, so I only use that when I have alot of time to get it perfect. I have yet to try other brand concealers but with concealers I am always picky and worry that I may not love them and they end up being lonely in my makeup drawers. I definitely need to branch out and try new stuff when it comes to concealers.

Latest addition

Nars Radiant Creamy concealer

Recently I did some shopping before my
birthday, to gift myself loads of makeup and this was one of them that I purchased. Hmm maybe I should do a Haul?? Anyways, I have not got the chance to try it yet and I cant wait to try it. I heard so many good reviews about Nars concealer and I hope I got my shade right. We shall see if this replaces my current concealer. What are the best concealers you have tried? Do share. 😊.

I am extremely sleepy and I still have one last night of night duty tonight. Do forgive me if there are typo errors as I am literally nodding off soon. Nevertheless despite all said, sleep is still very important, so do get enough sleep ok. Hope this post was useful to you. Have a awesome weekend ahead! My name is Sarah & I love makeup.

P.S. Open your eyes and look around. Beauty is all around you, you just have to look. That. Or look into a mirror cause you are simply beautiful. ❤️

COLOURPOP- Ultra Matte Lip

Hello Gorgeous,

Colourpop!! One my very favourite brands, never fail to get me excited over their products again and again! Might I add I do have quite a bunch of favourite brands but this brand is one of my Top 3. When these liquid lipsticks were launched, I got super excited and could not wait to get my hands on them. These, again… are available in US and they Do Not ship worldwide but they are available on some online makeup stores like Shopping District & Makeup Bag. I do get mine sent to my PO Box address and have them shipped over but please note that I order a bunch of stuff and ship them at one go which does saves me money. I do them only twice a year cause lets get real we all have bills to pay. You definitely can order from online retailers based in Singapore and save the hassle of shipping. These retail at USD $6 each and the price points on their products are extremely affordable and yet of good quality.

I do not own all the colours of the Ultra Matte Lippies. These are some that I own.

My Ultra Matte Lip collection

The variety of colours are just an eye candy and makes you want to own them all. Moving on to swatches..

(From Left to Right: Drive-In, Lychee, Zipper, Chilly Chilly, Tulle, See saw, Buds, Sundae, Highball, Mars, Scrooge, Creeper, More Better)

These babies dry down very matte and can make the lips feel a tad too dry. The newer formulas of the latest additions take a much longer time to dry matte though. The colour pay off is awesome except for some of the colours (See Saw, Buds, Sundae, Highball & Mars) . They do swatch a bit patchy. With See saw, Buds & Sundae, I do have a tougher time getting an all even application. The rest do apply beautifully with good colour payoff. My favourite 5 are Tulle, Creeper, More Better, Scrooge & Lychee. These shades I just love more than the rest. The colours are just too Yummy!!

The 2 things I dislike about some of them are:

1:Some of the shades tend to flake off after awhile and especially after some drinks. So I do suggest a lip primer and lining ur lips so the lips do not look all bare after it flakes off.

2: It is a pain to remove them. I kid you not. Although some do flake they do not budge easily nor remove easily. They have a good stain power which is why I always end up having to use more effort then normal to remove them.

*Most liquid lipsticks are tough to remove as they are meant to last longer than a lipstick would. So if your not a fan of having stains on your lips then this may not be to your liking.

*Small tip for those with dry lips, Do scrub your lips and put on some lip balm way before any liquid lipstick application. Do remove the residue of lip balm before application as I find it affects the time taken to dry matte too. (My lips are always dry)

Overall, I love my ColourPoP products. Very good variety and quality at affordable prices and cruelty free! Till my next review (which will be a few days later due to work), have a great week ahead. I am Sarah & I love Makeup.

Makeup Revolution

Does anyone else feel that 2015 has come and gone too fast?? Christmas & my Birthday has come and gone too fast.. Over the past few years, friends and families tend to gift me makeup but this year was different, many did not as they feel I have too much makeup and they do not know what I own and what I dont. LoL. Of course I have that one friend who did gift me makeup and got me all excited , but that is a post to share another day. The other only person who bought me makeup was my brother. Let me add, he knows nuts about makeup but he did unknowingly end up getting me something I never owned or tried before.

Ps: He thought he was getting me Makeup Geek’s eyeshadow palette as that is one of my favourites. But it wasn’t.

The Makeup Revolution – I Heart Makeup line.

Makeup Geek palette

Selfie palette + free primer

This 2 palettes came as a pair and my brother ordered them from Zalora, priced at SGD 40.

Can we talk about that packaging.. I am in love with the packaging and they have that colour changing effect on the palette when you tilt then forward and back.. Always a sucker for packaging. Before I go on to swatches, do note that the makeup geek palette (1st picture) is Not the palette from makeup geek which is another makeup brand (I love by the way). This is just the name of this palette by Makeup Revolution.

Makeup Geek Palette

Swatches of Random Shades

All the Shimmer ones swatched very nice and smooth and I am definitely loving most of the pigmentation. Some of the matte shades in the makeup geek palette though are abit choppy and I did had to swatch over 2 times for the colour to show up proper and the formula on the matte shades do not come off as wonderful as I thought it would. But the shimmery ones were all swatched once and are very pigmented. Definitely love the variety of colours on the palette, a good buy for someone who loves their shimmery shadows and like having a variety without having to buy different palettes. I do feel however both palette does lack transition shades which could have made them perfect palettes but other than that they are nice palettes, pigmented with variety of shades and the selfie palette is extremly portable and tiny which still allows you to create a decent eye look.

Lastly this is a drugstore brand which is definitely much much cheaper overseas compared to what my brother paid for. If you do go to US or live there you could get the Makeup Revolutionary palettes at very affordable prices and they have dupes of palettes which replicate higher end brands such as Urban Decay’s Naked palettes and Too faced palettes.. Colours being pretty much similar. End of the day it is individual call if it is worth or not. I like this palette but I must try them out to see if they last through the day.  Till my next review .. I am Sarah & I love Makeup.

Ps: You are beautiful no matter what colour or size you are. 😊
